Kindness Caps

Picture of two ASG members working on kindness caps

Members of the Louisville Chapter of the American Sewing Guild made sewn kindness caps for chemotherapy patience in 2006 and 2007, 2007, 2008 and 2009 and will continue to do so in 2010. Louisville ASG members made 112 kindness caps in 2008 and 463 in 2009.

Kindness caps are caps for people who have experienced hair loss due to chemotherapy. The caps are donated to Radiation and Chemotherapy Centers of Baptist Hospital East, Louisville, and Central Baptist Hospital, Lexington and Cancer Resource Center, Louisville. The hats are of simple styling and perfect for men, women, and teens. They are made out of one layer of fleece or single knit, making them light weight and very comfortable. This pattern was recommended by “The ChemoLady” Helen Littell from Oregon who has worked with Nancy Zieman through her Creative Kindness outreach efforts.
