Anti-Ouch Pouches

For the 2008 National Community Sewing project the American Sewing Guild choose to make anti-ouch pouches for women who have undergone lumpectomies or mastectomies or are going through radiation. These bags provide some comfort during painful post-operative recovery or between treatments. Instructions and a photo of the Anti-Ouch Pouch are on the ASG web site.

Louisville ASG members made 195 pouches. In addition to the pouches the ASG Louisville chapter also made a 12” square pillow from muslin or lining fabric to hold the batting inside the pouch to make laundering the pouch easier.

Some of the pouches made by the members of the Louisville Chapter of ASG were sent to ASG National Convention in Chicago and the others have been given to Baptist Hospital East, Louisville, and Central Baptist Hospital, Lexington.

The Breast Care Center at Baptist Hospital East can distribute as many of the Anti-Ouch Pouches as members of the Louisville Chapter of the ASG can make, as they have 100 breast surgeries weekly! Knowing all women can not receive a pouch, they distributed on Mother’s Day and will distribute during October which is national breast cancer awareness month.
